알트코인 채굴이 신장의 해외총생산(GDP)에서 차지하는 비중이 무시하는게 불가능한 수준이기 때문이다. 신장지역의 GDP는 약 2190억 달러다. 그중 암호화폐 채굴이 1.2%를 차지한다. 특이하게 지난해 신장 GDP 성장의 22%가 가상화폐 채굴 등 하이테크(첨장기술) 산업에서 비롯됐다.
다만 현장에 들이닥친 경찰은 대마초 재배 농장이 아닌 비트코인(Bitcoin) 채굴장을 발견하였다. 현장에는 환기장치가 부착된 500대가량의 컴퓨터가 줄지어 놓여 있었다. 대마초 농장과는 다르지만 암호화폐 채굴을 위해 21시간 컴퓨터를 가동하면서 엄청난 열기가 나온 것이다.
